California law has strict rules about Notary conduct. Knowing these ahead of time saves you a trip.
Direct answers to what customers ask us most.
$15 per signature. California law caps what Notaries can charge per notarial act, and we charge the standard rate. For documents with multiple signatures or signers, the fee multiplies — for example, a trust document with 4 signatures is $60. Loan signings with many pages are priced the same per-signature way.
For one or two documents, walk in during store hours (Mon–Sat, 10am–6pm). For three or more documents, or for loan-signing packets, we recommend calling ahead to schedule so you don't wait behind walk-in traffic. Call (408) 372-8689.
One current, unexpired government-issued photo ID: California driver's license or ID card, US passport, military ID, permanent resident card, or a driver's license/passport from another US state or foreign country that includes a photo, signature, and physical description. The name on your ID must match the name on the document.
No. California law prohibits Notaries from giving legal advice, explaining legal documents, or helping you decide what to sign. Our role is strictly to verify your identity, witness your signature, and apply the official seal. If you need advice on the content of a document, consult an attorney.
No. California requires the signer to appear in person in front of the Notary and sign during the notarial act. If you've already signed, the Notary will ask you to sign again in their presence on a fresh document.
Yes, we regularly notarize estate planning documents including pour-over wills, trust documents, and healthcare directives. Note that in California, a will itself is typically self-proved with two witnesses rather than a Notary, but the accompanying trust and directive documents do require notarization.
The Notary must be able to communicate directly with the signer to verify their identity and willingness to sign. We can notarize documents written in any language (we don't need to read them), but we need to verbally confirm understanding with the signer. A translator can't answer for them.
Yes. We're also a FedEx Authorized ShipCenter and USPS retailer, so once a document is notarized we can ship it domestically or internationally the same day. Overnight FedEx is available for time-sensitive documents.
We're open for walk-in Notary Public service on Saturdays (10am–6pm), same as weekdays. Sundays we're closed. If you need weekend Notary service specifically, Saturday is your day. For urgent Sunday needs, we recommend booking a mobile Notary in advance — ask us for referrals.
Yes, with one important clarification: we provide Notary Public services only. We witness your signatures, verify your ID, and apply the official seal on pages that require notarization — but we do not act as a certified signing agent (NSA) and we do not review, explain, or advise on the content of your loan documents. If you have questions about the terms of your loan, please contact your lender, escrow officer, or an attorney before your appointment. We regularly notarize packets for purchase closings, refinances, HELOCs, and reverse mortgages. Please call ahead to schedule so we can set aside focused time — bring the full packet, a current government-issued photo ID, and payment for each signature that requires notarization.
We don't travel to your location — our Notaries work out of our San Jose store only. If you need a mobile Notary (one who comes to your home, hospital, or office), we can refer you to trusted mobile Notaries in the San Jose area. For in-store visits, we're fast — most single-document notarizations take under 10 minutes.
Yes — travel consent letters are a common walk-in notarization for us. The non-traveling parent (or both parents if the child is traveling alone) must sign in person in front of the Notary, so don't pre-sign the letter. Bring one current, unexpired government-issued photo ID per signer. Most travel consent notarizations take under 10 minutes.
An apostille is issued only by the California Secretary of State — we handle the notarization step that usually comes first, but the apostille itself is obtained from the CA SoS directly (by mail to Sacramento or in person at an LA branch or a periodic San Jose event). After notarization, you'll send the document to the SoS with a request form and $20 per apostille. Turnaround is around 8 business days by mail, same-day in person.
Verified customer reviews from Google and Yelp.
“They've got mailbox rentals with package receiving, printing, faxing, shredding, and even passport photos and fingerprinting live scan — pretty much everything I need in one place. Both Reuben and Eric really go out of their way to help!”
“I really like this place. I've gotten many notaries done here over the past year and there's never been a single time when someone was not immediately available. Friendly staff, clean place, and affordable pricing. Skip the lines at big box stores and go straight to this corner spot.”
Walk in during store hours or book a slot so we hold time for you. Most single-document notarizations take under 10 minutes.
