Honest answers to what applicants ask us most.
Our rolling fee is $30. This is what you pay us for capturing and transmitting your prints. Separate from that, the California DOJ and/or FBI charge processing fees that vary by the type of background check required — those fees are listed on your live scan request form and we collect them at the same time. Total cost for most applicants ends up in the $70–$120 range depending on the agency.
Walk-ins are welcome Mon–Sat, 10am–6pm. Most scans take 15–30 minutes from walk-in to completion. If you're bringing a group (for a church youth program or small team, for example), please call ahead so we can plan for it.
Email your live scan request form to [email protected] before you come in. We pre-fill the ORI number and your applicant information so there's no data entry at the counter — just photo ID verification and the scan itself. This typically cuts wait time in half.
One current, unexpired government-issued photo ID: California driver's license or ID, US passport, US passport card, military ID, or a permanent resident card. A credit card, student ID, or expired license is not acceptable.
Rejected prints (poor quality, worn fingerprint patterns, or DOJ/FBI processing issues) happen occasionally. If your prints are rejected, you'll receive a letter from the agency instructing you to be re-printed. Bring that letter back to us and we'll re-do the scan at no additional rolling fee within the re-print window specified by the agency.
Yes. As a California DOJ-approved live scan location, we can transmit prints for any ORI number listed on your live scan request form — state DOJ, FBI, or combined. We regularly serve applicants from the California BRE (real estate), Medical Board, BRN (nursing), CTC (teaching credentials), Department of Social Services, and many others.
Yes — we're a Fieldprint Network Partner, which means we can also handle Fieldprint-scheduled appointments (the company that manages fingerprinting for FINRA, SEC, federal employment, and many corporate and financial industry applications). If you've been assigned a Fieldprint appointment at our location, come in at your scheduled time.
Under California law, live scan operators cannot give applicants copies of their own prints — they're transmitted directly to the requesting agency. If you need a fingerprint card for an out-of-state or federal application, we can take hard-card (FD-258) fingerprints separately; call us for pricing.
Yes. California sheriffs' CCW applications typically require live scan fingerprinting with the specific ORI assigned by your county sheriff's office. We process CCW live scans routinely for Santa Clara County applicants. Bring your county's live scan request form with the CCW ORI pre-printed on it.
We do live scan on Saturdays, 10am–6pm. Many state-run agencies and some operators don't offer Saturday service, so we're a practical option when your weekday schedule is tight. Book online for the fastest experience, or walk in.
Yes. The BCIA 8016 is the standard California Department of Justice live scan request form — every agency that requires CA DOJ and/or FBI background checks uses this form or an agency-specific variant. Bring yours and we'll transmit the prints to the correct agencies listed on the form.
Print rejections happen occasionally — usually because of worn fingerprint patterns (common in older applicants or people with hands-on jobs), moisture, or a transmission error on the DOJ/FBI side. You'll receive a rejection letter from the requesting agency within 2–4 weeks. Bring that letter back to us along with your original request form and we'll re-scan at no additional rolling fee, as long as you return within the re-print window specified by the agency (typically 90 days). If both attempts get rejected, the DOJ may allow a fingerprint card (FD-258) or a name-check as a manual alternative — we can help guide you through that.
Verified customer reviews from Google and Yelp.
“I've been a customer at Mailbox Plus since I opened my business in August 2024, and the experience has been outstanding from day one. Reuben, the owner, works incredibly hard and provides consistently excellent customer service. What really sets Mailbox Plus apart is the atmosphere — professional, reliable, and efficient, but also warm and close-knit in a way that's rare. As a business owner, it's reassuring to know my mail is handled by people who actually care.”
“Lots of services at great prices. I have a business mailbox and I love that it's a one-stop shop where I can also get notaries done and documents shipped for my business. The people who work here are also very friendly and genuinely helpful!”
Book a slot so you're in and out in 15 minutes. Or walk in — both work.
